Communications Officer (Events & Campaigns)

Location: Galway

Salary: 38,803 per annum (pro-rated for the duration of the contract)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week – 4 month temporary assignment

Reporting to: Communications Manager

Annual Leave: 23 days per annum (exclusive of public holidays), pro-rated based on the duration of the contract.

Purpose of the Role

The Communications Officer (Events & Campaigns) will support the Communications Team in the planning, coordination and delivery of communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement activities. The role will have a particular focus on supporting events, conferences, public engagement initiatives and communications campaigns that increase awareness of the organisation’s activities, services and research.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and with external suppliers to help deliver high-quality communications and engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of organisational events, conferences and public engagement activities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of communications and marketing campaigns to promote the organisation’s activities, services and research.
  • Draft, edit and proofread news releases, articles, event communications, website content and promotional materials.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers in the production of visual content, including graphics, photography and video.
  • Monitor media coverage and social media activity and assist in the preparation of performance reports and analytics.
  • Maintain communications databases, event records and content libraries.
  • Provide administrative support to the Communications Team as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of communications processes and practices.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as assigned by the Communications Manager.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Competencies

Essential Requirements

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

Qualifications

  • A third-level qualification in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Event Management or a related discipline.

Experience

  • A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in a communications, marketing, public relations or event support role.
  • Experience supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of events, campaigns or stakeholder engagement activities.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create clear, accurate and engaging content for a variety of audiences and channels.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while also demonstrating initiative and working independently when required.

Desirable Requirements

The following experience and skills would be advantageous:

  • Experience using social media management and analytics platforms.
  • Experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS).
  • Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software.
  • Experience working within a research, scientific, environmental, public sector or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Photography, videography or multimedia content creation skills.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and digital communications best practice.
