Lead Critical Facilities & Estate Services in a Purpose-Driven Healthcare Organisation

Orange Recruitment is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to lead the delivery of facilities, estates, engineering, maintenance, security, waste management, biomedical equipment management, and capital projects across a busy healthcare provider.

This is a senior leadership role reporting to the Director of Finance and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on service quality, patient safety, operational excellence, and organisational development.

About the Role

As Temporary Facilities Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across all facilities functions, ensuring the organisation’s infrastructure, engineering services, equipment, and estate are maintained to the highest standards.

You will oversee maintenance teams, contractors, security services, waste management operations, capital projects, and compliance programmes while driving continuous improvement, cost efficiency, and service excellence.

This position requires a proactive leader who can balance day-to-day operational demands with long-term estate planning and development.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities & Engineering Management

• Lead and manage all facilities and maintenance operations.
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of critical plant and engineering systems, including:
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Medical Gas Systems
  • Emergency Systems
  • HVAC services
  • Boiler and chiller plant
  • Electrical and mechanical infrastructure
• Develop and oversee planned preventative maintenance programmes.
• Manage maintenance budgets, equipment inventories, and asset replacement planning.
• Monitor energy consumption and implement energy efficiency initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.

Capital Projects

• Develop project scopes, budgets, and specifications.
• Manage procurement and tender processes.
• Oversee project delivery from design through completion and handover.
• Ensure robust health and safety management throughout all project phases.

Waste & Environmental Management

• Lead waste segregation, recycling, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
• Manage waste service contracts and compliance requirements.
• Develop contingency plans for waste management services.
• Oversee water infrastructure and supply management.

Security Management

• Maintain effective security systems and procedures, including CCTV and alarm systems.
• Manage security contractors and service standards.
• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and update security policies, training programmes, and operating procedures.

Biomedical Equipment Management

• Oversee maintenance and compliance of biomedical equipment assets.
• Manage service contracts and asset registers.
• Advise on equipment procurement, installation, and lifecycle planning.

People Leadership

• Lead, motivate, and develop multidisciplinary facilities teams.
• Manage workforce planning, rostering, training, and performance.
• Support recruitment and staff development initiatives.
• Promote a positive culture of safety, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Quality, Risk & Compliance

• Ensure all facilities services operate safely and effectively.
• Maintain accreditation, quality assurance, and compliance standards.
• Lead risk management activities within the facilities function.
• Foster strong working relationships across departments and external stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a management role within facilities, estates, engineering, maintenance, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, projects, contracts, and operational teams.
• Strong knowledge of environmental and waste management systems.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure.

Desirable

• Degree or equivalent qualification in:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Building Services Engineering
  • Related discipline
• Previous experience within healthcare or a similarly regulated environment.

What’s on Offer?

• Permanent full-time position
• Salary: €75,000 to €80,000
• 35-hour working week
• 30 days annual leave
