Intellectual Disability Nurse (RNID)

Adult Disability Service | Baldoyle, North County Dublin

Permanent full time, Monday to Friday (flexible working hours)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and dedicated Intellectual Disability Nurse (RNID) to join a well-established adult disability service in North County Dublin.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee residents’ healthcare needs in collaboration with GPs, consultants and allied health professionals.
  • Manage and support protocols relating to minor illnesses, PRN medication, long-term conditions and overall healthcare plans.
  • Support residents in understanding their medical conditions, treatments and medications.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of person-centred care plans.
  • Support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties and liaise with Psychiatry, Public Health Nursing and Psychology services as appropriate.
  • Conduct risk assessments relating to personal care, treatments and long-term healthcare needs.
  • Deliver training and guidance to support staff in areas including:
    • Medication management
    • Medical conditions and treatments
    • Infection prevention and control
    • Blood glucose monitoring and standard precautions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
  • Liaise with families and multidisciplinary teams regarding residents’ healthcare needs.
  • Provide minor wound care and nursing interventions as required.
  • Promote health and wellbeing through education around nutrition, exercise, hygiene, relationships and healthy living.
  • Contribute to the development and review of health-related policies and procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (RNID).
  • Previous experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of person-centred care principles.
  • Knowledge of HIQA standards, safeguarding and regulatory requirements.
  • Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) training or experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills.
  • Full clean driving licence.
