About the Organisation

The Service works across Ireland in the heart of local communities providing dementia-specific services and advocating for the rights of people affected by dementia to quality supports and services.

A national non-profit organisation, the Service is person-centred, rights-based and grassroots-led, with the voice of the person with dementia and their carer at its core.

Role Purpose

The Day Care Manager is responsible for providing best practice dementia-specific care to all clients attending the Day Care Centre.

The role promotes and delivers a model of care that is person-centred, community focused and responsive to the needs of both the person with dementia and their carers.

The Day Care Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of the centre, including staff supervision, client care, administration, health and safety, and service development.

The role requires strong leadership to guide staff and volunteers while ensuring that services operate in accordance with organisational policies, regulatory standards, and best practice in dementia care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respect the rights, dignity, privacy and confidentiality of all clients and their carers/advocates.
  • Build trusting relationships with clients and their families to ensure they feel safe and supported in the day care environment.
  • Ensure a service that promotes independence, self-esteem and improved quality of life for clients and their carers.
  • Ensure personal care needs are met in accordance with professional standards, including attention to dignity, hygiene and safety.
  • Provide a range of stimulating and enjoyable activities in a relaxed, safe and homely environment.
  • Promote strong partnerships with family carers and maintain regular communication regarding the wellbeing of clients.
  • Record and report any client accidents, incidents or complaints in line with organisational procedures.
  • Manage day-to-day staffing including scheduling, leave arrangements and ensuring appropriate staff-to-client ratios.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and supervision meetings with staff.
  • Address disciplinary or grievance matters in line with organisational policies.
  • Liaise with HR where appropriate regarding staff matters.
  • Input relevant information into billing systems for invoicing clients.
  • Manage correspondence and process client payments.
  • Maintain financial records related to centre operations where required.
  • Apply for grants and activity funding where applicable and maintain records of expenditure.
  • Promote awareness of dementia and the services provided by the organisation at a local level.
  • Network with healthcare professionals and referral partners
  • Organise events or information sessions to raise awareness and promote the service.

Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification recognised by QQI/NARIC) in Nursing, Social Care, Applied Social Studies, Social Care Practice or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in the health, social care or voluntary sector.
  • Minimum 3 years’ management or supervisory experience in a similar service.
  • Experience working with people with dementia or complex care needs.
  • Knowledge of dementia care best practice and issues affecting older people.
  • Experience in staff management, service delivery and quality assurance.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Strong IT skills

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification or specialist training in dementia care.
  • Experience working within the community or voluntary sector in Ireland.
