Role Purpose
The purpose of this role includes running the dressing clinic whilst also offering specialist nursing expertise in managing in patients and outpatients with complex tissue viability conditions. The successful candidate will work with various multidisciplinary teams providing a patient centred, quality and seamless service. He/she will work closely with nursing, medical staff, and HCAs across the organisation to promote the highest standards in Tissue Viability care.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
This Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist is a registered nurse who has extensive experience and clinical expertise in Tissue Viability nursing. The role will encompass a major clinical focus (direct & indirect) comprising of assessment, planning and delivery of patient care that is done in collaboration with medical and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operation of the Dressing Clinic in line with hospital policies and national standards
- Deliver and oversee high-quality wound assessment, treatment, and management
- Ensure evidence-based practice in wound care, infection prevention, and tissue viability
- Act as a clinical resource and role model for nursing staff and students
- Promote safe, effective, and person-centred care at all times
- Coordinate clinic schedules, patient flow, and staffing to ensure efficient service delivery
- Support rostering, skill mix, and allocation of duties within the clinic
- Monitor workload, waiting lists, and capacity to support service planning
- Participate in audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development
- Produce quarterly reports to the QPRS (Quality, Risk and Patient Safety) committee.
- Active participation in in HIQA (Health Information Quality Authority ) and JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation processes, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of care and quality.
- Conduct AARs (After Action Reviews) and debriefing with nurse managers to evaluate practices, identify learnings, and develop action plans for continuous improvement in the management of HAPI (Hospital Acquired Pressure Injuries)
Essential Requirements:
- Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligible to register with NMBI
- 5 years post-registration experience in the acute hospital setting within the last 7 years.
- Formal recognised post-registration education relevant to the area of specialist practice at level 9 (Graduate Diploma or Honours degree)
- Management experience desirable but not essential
- Have experience of working in a multi-professional environment
- IT Skills are essential
