Staff Nurse – Cath Lab
Department: Cardiology (Cath Lab)
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: Day shifts (flexibility required)
Location: South Dublin
Salary: €39,000 – €58,000 (depending on experience)
Role Summary
The Cath Lab Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering specialised nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac procedures. This role involves assisting during interventions, closely monitoring patient status, and collaborating with the cardiology team to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality care throughout the patient journey.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide high standards of nursing care to patients within the cardiology service
- Support cardiac procedures in roles such as:
- Scrub Nurse
- Circulating Nurse
- Recovery Nurse
- Observe and assess patients pre-, intra-, and post-procedure
- Educate patients regarding procedures and recovery
Patient Support & Communication
- Offer clear guidance, reassurance, and support to patients and their families
- Collaborate effectively with cardiologists and the multidisciplinary team
- Uphold patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times
Medication Management & Safety
- Administer medications in accordance with best practice guidelines
- Maintain accurate records for controlled drugs
- Ensure compliance with NMBI standards and hospital protocols
- Keep BLS certification current (ACLS desirable/required)
Operational Duties & Team Contribution
- Maintain precise and timely patient records
- Operate and manage Cath Lab equipment safely
- Support and mentor junior team members
- Take responsibility for leading the unit when necessary
Quality, Safety & Governance
- Report incidents, risks, and near-miss events promptly
- Engage in audits and quality improvement initiatives
- Adhere to clinical governance frameworks and safety standards
Candidate Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Registered General Nurse with NMBI
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a Cath Lab setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (ACLS preferred/required)

- Strong clinical knowledge and technical ability in cardiology
- Effective leadership and teamwork skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Competence in IT systems and clinical documentation
- Understanding of quality improvement and risk management principles
