We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to join a purpose-driven organisation delivering high-quality, person-centred services within the community. This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape the future of service delivery within a progressive and evolving environment.

The Opportunity

As Director of Nursing, you will play a pivotal role in leading and developing nursing services across the organisation. Operating as a key member of the Executive Management Team, you will contribute to strategic decision-making while ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compliant care. You will lead within a complex landscape, driving innovation in rights-based, individualised service delivery, while ensuring professional standards, operational efficiency, and workforce sustainability.

Essential Experience and Qualifications required:

  • Registration as a Registered Nurse (Intellectual Disability) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligibility for registration
  • A minimum of 10 years’ post-registration experience, including 5 years in nursing management (minimum CNM2 level), with recent experience in an ID setting
  • A Master’s degree in Nursing or a related discipline Postgraduate qualification in Management
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, service development, and leadership
  • Strong knowledge of HIQA standards and the New Directions framework
  • Proven ability in budget management and workforce planning
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Sector strategic issues and trends.
  • Public Sector macro – economic environment and implications for the organisation.
  • Governance and standards – Legal, Regulatory, Statutory and Governance Management Procedures, systems, and processes.
  • Resource Management.
  • Knowledge of Organisation Structure, Systems Roles, Processes.
  • Large Workforce Change Management.
  • Service planning and development.
  • Sector structures, representational systems, and key stakeholders.
  • Experience of management of a large and complex organisation
  • Implementation of efficiency measures.
