Orange Recruitment have partnered with an engineering-led technology business operating at the forefront of advanced cooling solutions is seeking an Electrical & Controls Design Engineer to support the development of next-generation systems for high-density data centres. The Electrical and Controls engineer is centred on the design and specification of electrical systems, controls architecture, and instrumentation. The Electrical and Controls engineer will be working closely with mechanical, software, and test engineers, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how innovative cooling technologies are engineered.
The Electrical and Controls Engineer position offers genuine technical depth, exposure to complex systems, and the opportunity to influence core design decisions rather than simply execute predefined solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop electrical architectures for prototype and future production systems, including power distribution, control and safety circuits, protective devices, and panel layouts
- Produce detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent tools
- Select and specify electrical components such as breakers, contactors, relays, VSDs, EC motors, actuators, compressors, power supplies, and safety devices
- Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant CE and safety standards
- Participate in design reviews and risk assessments (including FMEA)
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and bills of materials
- Define and specify sensors and instrumentation across refrigerant, air, and water circuits, including temperature, pressure, flow, humidity, level, and differential pressure measurement
- Develop controls architecture diagrams, I/O schedules, and cable lists in collaboration with software and controls engineers
- Provide technical input into control strategies, sequencing, and system behaviour
- Assess and support integration of communication methods such as analogue and digital I/O, Modbus, BACnet, PWM, and 0-10V control
